Who else wants professional writing experience?


Special opportunity: The Jewish World rarely seeks or accepts interns, but is opening the doors for several interns for summer 2007, fall 2007, or for a one-year commitment.

Newswriting intern

Emphasis: reporting and writing. Digital photography a plus. Some possibility for page layout and graphics students. Minimum commitment: 15 hrs/week.

You will get real experience, working for professional editors who will teach you how to gather information, analyze it, and pound out compelling copy. You'll make strides in learning to write lucid sentences and coherent paragraphs. Staff who will work with you include:

Sam Clevenson -- in the field since 1932 when he was 15. Wrote for his town's daily newspaper, Laconia, NH. Experience as freelance writer, fulltime reporter, desk man, city editor, sports reporter, wire editor, owner and publisher of several weekly newspapers in a career spanning 75 years!

Laurie Clevenson -- sociology and literature student, film critic, wire editor, city editor, copy editor, layout editor at The Jewish World. 25 years experience.

Jim Clevenson -- philosophy and religion student, business analyst and writer, news and book text editor, marketing and sales copywriter. 40 years experience in newspapering.

Photographers and layout artists will gain a basic understanding of editorial layout methods and tricks.

SMART YOUNG whippersnapper to help run World Media, a mature and growing printing brokerage and marketing business. Potential to make good money with combination of hourly and commission rates. Customer service skills necessary; sales experience would be a plus. Computer savvy expected—some knowledge of bookkeeping, accounting, or business analysis wouldn't hurt. Same goes for graphics programs such as Quark, Illustrator, and Photoshop. Successful candidate does not have to be "young," but should have flexible mind to develop solutions for our clients as we help them build their enterprises into more profitable businesses and more effective non-profit organizations.
