The Jewish World Of Elvis Presley will be discussed at the Nassau Synagogue Brunch Book Talk slated for Sunday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m. Author Roselle Kline Chartock will discuss her book following the brunch at 11:30 a.m. The program will take place at the Nassau Synagogue, 12 Albany St., Nassau. Books will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation.
In her talk about her latest book, The Jewish World Of Elvis Presley, Chartock will reveal a little known side of the rock ‘n’ roll icon, that is, his affinity to Jews and his own Jewish heritage. She will tell stories about Elvis’s relationship with the Jews he befriended in Memphis and elsewhere, and relate stories that reveal Presley’s humanitarian and philosophical interests that many of his fans and the general public have not heard about.
Chartock is a professor emerita of education and a full-time artist and writer. She had taught on all levels for 45 years. Her earlier works include four books and several scholarly articles on topics related to education, American history and Jewish history, among them an anthology on the Nazi Holocaust, Can It Happen Again? Chronicles of the Holocaust.
Those planning to attend are asked to make reservations for the brunch by calling 518-766-9831 or by e-mail, nassausynagogue@gmail.com. According to organizers, monetary donations for the brunch are welcome.
The author talk will also be live-streamed at 11:30 a.m. and those interested are asked to make e-mail reservations and request the Zoom link.
