ALBANY– The Albany Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community (NNORC) recently celebrated 20 years of providing care, collaboration and support for older adults in Albany on Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. Administered by Jewish Family Service of Northeastern New York (JFS), the program provides aging-well supports within a specified 3.5 square mile geographic area centered around St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, where over 30% of residents are over 60 (determined in partnership with New York State Office for the Aging). The NNORC is built on the premise that older adults who are engaged and supported are more likely to maintain their current lifestyle and will age well and safely in place longer.
Nearly 160 residents, NNORC supporters and partners, elected officials, JFS and NNORC staff gathered for lunch, music, activities and a short program to recognize the programs and support services provided by JFS staff.
This celebration marked a 20-year milestone for JFS providing coordinated, forward-thinking programs and services to support older adults aging in place in Albany, according to JFS president and CEO, Jane Ginsburg.
She said, “Every day, NNORC staff have meaningful, one-to-one contact with the residents we serve. Through JFS’s 360-degree approach to aging in place, NNORC staff and services make a big impact on someone’s day-to-day life with in-person care management, wellness-focused engagement, interesting and varied programs and education and resources, in-home safety assessments, and monitoring for changes in health and behaviors to avoid crises.”
She added, “In the first six months of 2026, Albany NNORC experienced a 30% increase in clients served. We delivered 1,230 hours of homecare, 500 hours of care management, 225 hours of healthcare management along with 83 educational and recreational programs.”
