Clifton Park Chabad launches new JLI course: Sinai and Civics

Clifton Park Chabad is offering a new JLI course on Jewish values, civic responsibility and Torah’s role in democracy, open to all adults.

Clifton Park Chabad Jewish Center will present the opening class of a new Jewish Learning Institute course series, “Sinai and Civics,” exploring the intersection between Jewish values and civic responsibility on Tuesday, June 16, at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library and it is open to the community free of charge. The library is at 475 Moe Rd., Clifton Park.

Succeeding sessions will begin June 22nd and be held from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Clifton Park Chabad., 495 Moe Rd.

According to organizers, the course will examine Jewish perspectives on government, justice, morality, individual rights, and the responsibilities of citizenship. Class participants will explore how the Torah’s teachings continue to shape conversations surrounding ethics, democracy, and public life.

“This course creates an opportunity for meaningful dialogue about the values that strengthen both society and the individual,” said Rabbi Yossi Rubin of Clifton Park Chabad. “We are excited to bring these conversations into a welcoming public space where people of all backgrounds can learn together.”

As part of the introduction evening, there will also be reading from the American Jewish Heritage Torah in honor of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, celebrating the enduring contribution of Jewish Americans to the fabric of the United States. The event is open to adults of all backgrounds and affiliations, and no prior Jewish knowledge is necessary.
