SCHENECTADY–Congregation Gates of Heaven has planned a pre-Shavuot celebration: the “Kugel Smackdown and Dairy Dessert Bash,” for Saturday, May 31, at the temple, 852 Ashmore Ave., Schenectady. It begins at 4:30 p.m.
The free program, open to the community, will kick off with a havdalah service, marking the end of Shabbat.
The upcoming holiday of Shavuot —traditionally associated with Torah, community, and dairy delights will be noted with the noodle casserole competition. Attendees will be invited to sample the entries and vote in several categories, including: Best Classic Kugel, Most Creative Kugel, and People’s Choice: Kugel Champion. Prizes, including the Golden Spoon Trophy, will be awarded.
Following the competition, a Dairy Dessert Bash, featuring cheesecakes, blintzes, and other creamy Shavuot-inspired treats is slated.
“This is about coming together in community, having fun, and celebrating the spirit of Shavuot through the joy of food,” said Arnie Rotenberg, director of congregational education. “We welcome everyone — whether you’re entering a kugel or just hungry for connection.”
Rotenberg at arotenberg@cgoh.org or 518-374-8173 can provide details.
