SCHENECTADY– The Schenectady Jewish Community Center (SJCC) will host dinner and a movie to celebrate Yom HaAtzmaut 77, Israel’s 77th Independence Day, on Sunday, May 18, at 6 p.m. An “Israeli style” dinner and a screening of the film, “Leonard Bernstein & the Israel Philharmonic” will be featured. The Center is located at 2565 Balltown Rd.
The 47-minute documentary focus is the late Bernstein, an American Jewish conductor and composer commissioned by the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic in 2022, the film shows the decades-long relationship between the maestro and the orchestra. It includes interviews, archival images and video footage.
The film is hosted and directed by playwright, actor, and pianist, Hershey Felder.
Tickets are $18 for JCC members and $25 for guests. Information and reservations are available at 518-377-8803, www.schenectadyjcc.org.
