ALBANY – Shalom Food Pantry has announced that the ninth annual Battle of the BBQs, is set for Sunday, June 21. It will be held on the grounds of the Albany Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Rd. from 4 to 6 p.m. The fund-raiser will once again bring together local barbecue teams, families, and food enthusiasts for an afternoon of competition, food, and community spirit to help support the food pantry.
Organizers report that the Battle of the BBQ raises funds that allow Shalom Food Pantry to continue providing nutritious groceries, emergency food assistance, and support to individuals and families throughout the region who are facing food insecurity. According to organizers, proceeds from the competition help ensure that local residents in need have access to healthy meals and essential pantry staples year-round.
The event program will feature barbecue teams serving their best recipes with a focus on toppings. Other available food will include burgers and hot dogs, alongside vegetarian dishes. Attendees may sample offerings, vote in the People’s Choice contest, and enjoy music, children’s activities, and entertainment.
This year’s committee includes Naomi Storch, Victoria Goldberg, Jeremy Kassel, Jess Hausler, Shoham Piorentino, Lianne Wladis, and Jennifer Wind.
Co-Director of Shalom Food Pantry, Chanie Simon said, “Over the years, the Battle of the BBQ has raised crucial funds that allow the pantry to continue providing nutritious food assistance, and support to individuals and families throughout the Capital Region.”
