Temple Sinai of Saratoga Springs has announced plans for a 10-day congregational trip to Morocco in early 2027, offering participants an immersive experience in Jewish history, culture and interfaith connections across the North African country.The trip, titled “Jewish Journey to Morocco,” will run from Jan. 3–12, 2027, and will be led by Rabbi Ilana Symons. Organized in partnership with J2 Adventures, the program is designed to combine historical exploration with cultural engagement and community-building.Open primarily to members of the congregation, the trip is expected to draw a group of 25 or more participants. Registration is scheduled to run from Jan. 20 through Sept. 3, 2026, with prices starting at $5,035 per person based on double occupancy.According to organizers, the itinerary will take participants through several of Morocco’s major cities, including Casablanca, Fes, Rabat and Marrakech, blending Jewish heritage sites with broader cultural landmarks.Highlights of the journey include visits to synagogues, Jewish cemeteries and the Museum of the Jews of Morocco—the only Jewish museum in the Arab world—as well as guided tours of historic medinas and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Participants will also explore interfaith themes, including Morocco’s history of Jewish-Muslim coexistence.

The trip will incorporate educational sessions with local experts and community members, including discussions on contemporary Jewish life in Morocco. Cultural activities such as a Moroccan cooking workshop, home hospitality experiences and a visit to a Berber village in the Atlas Mountains are also planned.A Shabbat experience in Marrakech is expected to be a centerpiece of the trip, featuring services led by Rabbi Symons and a traditional Shabbat dinner hosted in a local home.Organizers say the program aims to provide not only a travel experience but also a deeper understanding of Jewish identity and global connections.“Travel is not just about the places you visit, but the connections you make along the way,” the trip description notes, emphasizing the program’s focus on personal meaning and shared experience.The package includes eight nights of accommodations, daily breakfast, guided touring, select group meals and transportation within Morocco. Flights to and from Morocco are not included.A non-refundable deposit of $675 is required to reserve a spot, with final payment due 120 days prior to departure.Program details remain tentative and subject to change, organizers said.
